Something I adore about afternoon tea is that everything on the tea tray is small. So cute, so adorable. The miniature sweets look delicious and when the colours and flavours blend well along with the shapes being different this makes for a most DELIGHTFUL afternoon tea experience.

A Cream Tea is a light meal consisting of scones, fruit jam, clotted cream, and a freshly-brewed pot of tea.

Let’s chat Savories today. I have read and heard this first course referred to as the tea sandwiches or savories. I have adopted a differentiation for myself. It may not be traditional, and I may be the only one doing this but, if it is warm it is a savoury. If it is having bread, it is a sandwich. But little finger canape style offerings are also savories. Confused, don’t worry. It is all delicious either way.

Dragonfly Delights Tearoom has chosen to use the term “Afternoon Tea” on the menu as this is the correct term for a meal of dainty finger sandwiches, scones and sweets served on a three tier tray.

Elevenses: This late-morning work break generally occurs at 11 a.m. (thus the name) and involves hot tea or coffee and a light snack, like a muffin, scone or biscuit. Even though the tradition probably didn’t start until sometime in the 20th century, elevenses is now considered an essential element of British culture.

Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford was born in 1783. History tells us that Afternoon tea was popularize around 1840. Anna would have been 57 years old when she was taking bread, butter, and tea into her bed chamber late afternoon.
