Reading and Writing Retreat
Reading and Writing Retreat at Clear Lake
Looking for a low-cost holiday to help you get through your pile of books? Or perhaps you have some writing projects that need some undivided attention to finally get them organized and completed? A reading and writing retreat might just be the mini-break you need to get it all done.
Reading retreats typically offer a distraction-free space with bibliotherapists on hand to provide you with personalized recommendations and chefs to whip up delicious meals while you discuss what you've been reading with fellow guests. It sounds, admittedly, like a perfect bookwormy getaway.
Dragonfly Delights Tea Room along with The Stowaway Inn would like to offer you a distraction free space with meals all taken care of. Snuggle into your newly renovated room, enjoy the unique atmosphere of the tea room or wander the neighbourhood for just the right reading or writing spot.
We won’t have a bibliotherapist on hand but there will be lots of other book lovers and writers around to share your reading and writing adventures with.
The Stowaway Inn has your space ready with extra pillows, and soft blankets. While the Tea Room will have plenty of snacks for you to choose from for those in between meal time munchies. Enjoy Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and even an Afternoon Tea Party at the Tea Room. Imagine, no food prep or clean up. We will take care of all of that for you.
Arguably the fun bit of the weekend retreat is choosing what to read ahead of your retreat, so you will be turning to page one straight away rather than procrastinating over your bookshelves. You may already have a shelf brimming with books that you are yet to read or if you are looking for the perfect excuse to visit your local bookshop then this might just be it!
The tea room would like you to bring a book or books that you no longer need or think you will never read. We will have a book fair. Leave a book, take a book. Bring anything book, reading and writing related really.
As soon as you mention you are snuggling down with books and endless snacks to your nearest and dearest they may want to join you. Who wouldn't? Invite them along, you can meet to share your reading adventures over a meal then head back to the solitude of your own cozy room to dive into another adventure.
Even the most seasoned bookworms will know that reading non-stop for a full day is hard. And writing non-stop is rarely productive. To keep the momentum you are encouraged to try breaking up your time into designated chunks. Use audio books for when your eyes are getting tired or dedicate a slot for a book club chat over a cup of tea in the tea room. Grab the popcorn and watch your favourite book-to-screen adaptation. Bonus points if it’s based on the book you’ve been reading! Take your break for a walk through the neighbourhood, enjoy the scenery and breath in the fresh air.
Art with Attitude will be in the Tea Room on Saturday April 26 for a Paint party. Join others to create a welcome sign. (Cost $50.) Keep it or give it away as a gift. A special someone's birthday or a bridal shower is coming up.
