Teaching little ones to be a great guest

Teaching little ones to be a great guest

Teatime thoughts April 14

I am enjoying all the stories that you have sent about afternoon tea adventures with your little ones. THANK YOU !

I do look forward to being able to serve afternoon tea again soon. Our tearoom does offer a child’s menu. It would bring me great joy to serve these little ones. Children can be so difficult to please when presented with culinary delights. Our tea tray offers familiar flavours such as jam with cream cheese, peanut butter and honey as well as the very same flavour filled options as the regular tea tray.

Here are some great ideas for fun activities to help you teach your child how to be a great guest.

*Children learn quicker when they are engaged in active play. Incorporating role play is one effective way to teach this lesson.

*You can use puppets, stuffed animals, dolls or just role play with your child.

*Go through different scenarios demonstrating good and poor behaviour as well as different types of events.

*Give you child the experience of being the host as well as the guest. A child will also learn the importance of proper guest behaviours form the perspective of what she would expect as a host.

*Remember the point of teaching a child to be a proper guest is to show respect and gratitude to the host. Rules are a great guideline and perfect to start. Yet, you will see through discussing thankfulness, respect, and obedience in light of being a guest that your child will naturally take on the role of a good guest.

I do hope you are enjoying your afternoon teatime with the young people in your life during this social distancing.

Stay home, stay safe, we are all in this together.

Cheers!                                                                                                                                              Joanne
