Teatime Thoughts March 31
The children are home from school. You might be home from work. This is a difficult time. Emotions are running high. Fears of the unknown causing anxiety.
I am attempting to focus on the positive. I am spending my time and energy on what I can do. I have been working on the business plan, financial projections, learning quick books, learning about social media, Instagram in particular. Creating and pre-scheduling posts. Housekeeping….
Why not, let’s take afternoon tea together. Permission to stop. While you are home why not take time to teach children to be a guest. Put the kettle on, clear off the dining table. Collect some teacups, saucers, little plates, sugar, milk and a sweet treat. Set some fun napkins on the table. When you sit down together quietly talk about this, basic simple rules of being a guest. Sometimes we forget to share these simple things with the little ones when our lives are busy.
Let’s have afternoon tea together while teaching children to be a guest!
Here are some simple rules to be a good guest. Share them with your children while you enjoy this first of many afternoon tea dates with each other.
*Always say please and thank you during your visit
*Always ask permission before touching or playing with anything
*Follow the rules of the house or venue you are visiting
*Never run or jump inside a friend’s home or event venue
*Always use your inside voice
*Eat drink in designated areas only unless given permission form an adult.
*Never open doors. Including cabinets, refrigerator, drawers, or closed doors.
*If you accidentally spill something or make a mistake always be honest and apologize
*Know where the bathroom is upon entering to avoid an accident
*Always thank the host for inviting you.
Pretty basic for us yes, but for little people discovering so much of the world for the first time. These basic rules of being a great guest need to be reviewed, explained and revisited some more, often.
Enjoy! Joanne
