Crafting with Love

When I create things for my family, whether I bake or sew, it is all about creating something from the heart, just like our grandmas used to do. Do-it-yourself crafts are about putting a piece of yourself into what you’re making and sharing that warmth with the people around you.

If you knit, crochet or sew do it with spring colors

Picking up knitting or crocheting as the weather gets nicer is such a great way to slow down and make something unique at the same timeI does not matter what yo are making, or for whom, there is so much satisfaction in seeing your project evolve over time from idea to finished project. Perhaps you are working on Christmas gifts already. I am behind already. With 7 children, 7 significant others attached to them, 12 grandbabies with one more due any moment I have begun to work year round on Christmas. When my children were small, I started in July. This year has been difficulty as I pursue the opening of the tear room the crafts have taken a back seat.

The warmer weather allows one to take the crafting outside in the fresh to air, which is wonderful. My plan is to get my squares sewn together on the sew machine before the end of May so that I can handstitch quilts for the remainder of the year.

I saw these suggestions online for Spring do-it-yourself craft projects. Which might you try?

Open Weave Pale Pink Scarf: Light and airy, perfect for those slightly chilly spring mornings. The pale pink adds a soft touch of color to your outfit.

Lacy Cotton Shawl: Crochet a delicate shawl in a light cotton yarn. Choose a pastel color or keep it classic in white for a piece that’s both cozy and chic.

Brightly Colored Flower Brooches: Knit or crochet small flowers and attach them to brooch pins. They’re a fun way to add a pop of spring color to jackets or bags.

Sunshine Yellow Baby Blanket: Welcome any spring babies with a soft, cuddly blanket knitted in a sunny yellow, sure to brighten up any nursery.

Crochet Market Tote: Make a sturdy yet stylish tote bag for all your spring farmers’ market visits. Go for vibrant colors to reflect the season’s energy.

When we create gift ourselves, or craft for others it is acknowledging all those beautiful souls that went before us who have done the same, reminding us to take it slow and easy. Mindful and intentional enjoying the process of creating something from scratch.

Have you ever made something with pressed flowers

There’s something really special about pressing flowers. It’s like freezing a moment in time, but in the most beautiful way. Mixing in pressed flowers with photos or notes is such a personal way to keep track of the memories that matter most to us.

I remember pressing flowers with my children. We never did much with them, that I can remember. We had good intentions but didn’t carry through. I do have in a keepsake box, a poppy taken from the fields of France, while on holiday there years ago. It is a treasure not only of the holiday but also a Flanders Field, remembrance, a tribute to the memory of the lives lost in war.

More  ideas from “the google” to help you finish your good intentions of pressing flowers.

Frame Them: Pop your pressed flowers into frames for a simple, beautiful piece of wall art. Mix and match different flowers for a gallery wall vibe.

Custom Greeting Cards: Glue them onto cards for a special, handmade touch on birthdays, thank you notes, or just because.

Candle Making: Embed pressed flowers around the outside of candles for a beautiful, natural look that lights up any room.

Decorating Notebooks or Journals: Add a personal touch to your stationery by gluing pressed flowers on the covers.

Transparent Bookmarks: Sandwich pressed flowers between two pieces of clear contact paper for a durable, see-through bookmark.

Table Place Cards: Use them to decorate place cards for a dinner party or wedding for an elegant, natural touch.

In a world that’s all about digital, AI terrifies me and amazes me all at the same time. When we take the time to physically put these personal keepsakes together it feels extra meaningful.

Sometimes when I am crafting I wonder how many of my mothers before me did the same? Who enjoyed sewing, where did I get my enjoyment of baking? Who had a passion for all things tea?

What craft project will you be tackling while sipping your cup of tea today?
